Silver Swans® is a gentle ballet class designed especially for adults 55+, with a focus on posture, balance, movement, and community. No pressure - just a welcoming space to move and connect.

Will there be others like me?

Most likely - yes! Our community is a group of courageous adults from 55 - 82 years (and you can be older too!).

We promise that you are not too old to join or have too many aches and pains. Our Silver Swan teachers are qualified and expert modifiers who can support your dancing that is best for you and your body.

Other frequently asked questions

  • Can I try a class before committing?
    You can join any of our classes knowing that you are covered by our Happiness Guarantee! This simply means, if you are not satisfied with the class, you will receive a full refund, no questions asked.
  • What should I wear to class?
    You should wear anything you feel comfortable moving in! You want your clothing to allow a free range of movement where nothing will get caught or scratched from a safety perspective. Activewear or a leotard and skirt - as long as you can move and enjoy what you are doing!
  • Do I need ballet shoes?
    Ballet shoes are optional. Whilst the are recommended, they are not a requirement. For Beginners, we recommend wearing socks for the the first couple of weeks before you buy your first pair of ballet flats. Pointe shoes can only be purchased and worn following pointe training and confirmation from your class teachers. They are no suitable for beginners.
  • Do I need to have dance experience to join?
    We cater for all levels of experience! In all of our age groups, we have classes designed for complete beginners to classes designed for aspiring ballerinas. If you’re unsure which is the best class to try, get in touch!
  • Can I watch my dancer’s trial class/class?
    In our lessons we encourage independent learning and skill development, however you are welcome to watch through the window/doors. If your young dancer needs some help settling, we will invite you into the room to support your dancer with the transition. We have Celebration Week at the end of term 1, 2 and 3 where family and friends are invited to watch their dancer’s classes and celebrate their progress! You are welcome to check in with the class teacher throughout the term to discuss your child’s progress.
  • What is the uniform? What do I wear to a free trial lesson?
    We have a uniform list that will be provided to you upon enrollment. All of our uniforms can be purchased at our local dance wear stores. For a trial lesson, for dancers with experience, wear any uniform with the appropriate shoes and grooming for the genre. For complete beginners, wear anything comfortable for moving it (eg, leggings, shorts, singlet), bring socks and have your hair tied off your face.
  • When can I join Ignite? Do I need to wait for the start of term?
    Your dancer is welcome to join at any point of the year and term! The class teacher will be aware that your dancer may have missed learning content and will structure their lesson to support each dancer on their unique learning journey.
  • What happens if I miss a class?
    We offer make up lessons for missed classes! Simply email our team to arrange a make up lesson.
  • What are the term dates?
    We follow the Western Australian school term dates with each term starting on a Monday and finishing on a Saturday. Our Adult Classes run through the school holidays.
  • Do you offer performances?
    We hold a highly anticipated end-of-year performance for all dancers! Participation is optional, however the majority of dancers become involved. We also provide the opportunity to learn and perform solos.
